Murder Suspect Found Dead in Jail Cell

BROOKHAVEN, Miss.- A Brookhaven man who had been in jail for murdering a child and her father was found unresponsive Saturday morning. Jimmy Lyons had his last meal Saturday morning around 7:30 when he was served his breakfast. About two hours later, he was found unresponsive. Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing told WJTV he was pronounced dead at around 10:15 that morning.

He said that Lyons appeared to be fine at the time he was served breakfast. He had been in custody of the Lincoln County Jail since March 13th when he was charged with the murder of 9-year-old Jamaiyah Sims, and her father, Jermaine Sims Sr.

He also had aggravated assault charges for allegedly shooting the two other children and their mother. Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said at the time of the shooting that Lyons had been living with the family.

Deputy Coroner Robert Tyler said there were no obvious signs of trauma on Lyons’ body at the time of death. An autopsy has been ordered for the body.
