In the early morning hours of Sunday, law enforcement officials in central Mississippi were made aware that an 18-wheeler that had fled from Louisiana State Police was moving westbound into Rankin and Scott County.
A Rankin County sheriff’s deputy located the truck a short time later, attempting to initiate a traffic stop after observing the vehicle dangerously weaving in and out of traffic. The driver paid no heed to the attempt, beginning another pursuit of the driver.
Spike strips were deployed by Pearl police officers, but the semi-truck rolled over them and continued down Interstate 20. The pursuit continued through the city of Jackson and as the driver was beginning to enter Clinton city limits, he finally came to a stop.
But when deputies and officers approached the truck, he barricaded himself inside the cab, prompting officers to break through the driver’s side window before he could be arrested.
David Sergey Pozdnyakov of Duncan, South Carolina was arrested and charged with felony fleeing, DUI, disobeying a police officer, and careless driving. He was taken to the Rankin County Detention Center where he remains in custody without bond.
Further charges are possible for Pozdnyakov in both Mississippi and Louisiana.
