Mississippi State has struggled mightily in the passing game this season, and those problems came to a head Saturday night against LSU, as Nick Fitzgerald went 8-24 with four interceptions. With all that in mind, the thought of making a change under center wasn’t on Joe Moorhead’s mind during the game. As he spoke to the media this Monday, the possibility of giving backup Keytaon Thompson some reps this weekend against Texas A&M has been brought up in the coach’s meeting rooms.
Obviously when an offense struggles, there is going to be a loud chorus for a change at the most important position, but Moorhead stressed there is more to a successful passing game than just the quarterback. Despite that, it does seem as though Thompson will see the field for at least a series or two on Saturday, and then a decision will be made to move forward based on that performance. We will discuss that and much more today on SportsTalk Mississippi, as I will join the whole crew at the Timeout SportsBook at the Golden Moon Casino for the full show. Tune in starting at 3 P.M. for that and much more.
