The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,031 new cases of COVID-19, the state’s second-highest one-day rise.
Today’s spike in new cases brings the state’s total up to 34,622. 1,215 Mississippians have passed away due to the virus following this morning’s confirmation of 11 additional deaths.
Hospitalizations climbed to 711, an all-time high for COVID-19 patients. ICU bed usage also rose from 187 to 205.
Today’s report comes after Governor Tate Reeves indicated that 13 Mississippi counties will soon have additional social distancing guidelines put in place to slow the spread of the virus.
Claiborne, DeSoto, Grenada, Harrison, Hinds, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Quitman, Rankin, Sunflower, Washington, Wayne.
No businesses will be forced to close, but additional guidelines will be put in place along with restrictions on social gatherings. Indoor gatherings are once again limited to 10 people or less and the limit on outdoor gatherings drops down to 20. Masks must be worn while out in public in these counties. The order will take effect next week.
