The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 795 new cases of COVID-19.
While today’s report does show an uptick from the past two days, Mississippi has not had a day over 1,000 new cases since August 12th. The state’s total number of cases is now at 73,207. With the confirmation of *34 additional deaths, 2,128 Mississippians have passed away from the virus.
MSDH Note: 7 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between July 21 and August 9, identified from death certificate reports.
The latest hospital data (from Monday’s report) shows that overall hospitalizations and ICU bed usage have dropped significantly in recent days.
The MSDH is now able to estimate that 56,577 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
Mississippi’s 7-day rolling average continues to fall, and Monday, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs stated that our efforts are working.
“This is a remarkable opportunity, that if we make the right decisions & really focus on limiting transmission at this moment, we can have an entirely different trajectory than we might otherwise,” Dr. Dobbs said.
Dr. Dobbs and Governor Reeves encouraged the continued use of masks and social distancing efforts to ensure that the numbers do not begin to rise.
