The Mississippi State Health Department is here to make sure the food you’re picking up at the State Fair is good enough to eat.
They’ve been out conducting inspections of each local food vendor before the fair opens it’s doors on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
“We have been inspecting food booths because that is part of our job, we inspect every booth on the facility before the fair opens. If they do not have a little sticker than they cannot open,” said Anne Hogue with the MSDH.
However, just because they’re cleared once doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. Hogue said routine checks will be done throughout the fair to ensure that food continues to be made properly.
She encouraged fair goers to keep an eye out on vendors to ensure they are doing food prep properly and if they see something suspicious to report it to the MSDH for inspection.
A few things they look for in an inspection:
- A handwashing lavatory
- Dishwashing
- They look for knowledge on food prep
- Proper food storage
