For the second straight day, the Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting less than 300 new cases of COVID-19.
The confirmation of 268 new cases of COVID-19 brings the state’s total up to 16,020. 767 Mississippians have tragically passed away from the virus with today’s report of 28 additional deaths.
*MSDH Note – 10 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths between May 6 and May 27 were identified through death certificate reports.
The MSDH is investigating 127 outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities. The MSDH defines an outbreak as “one or more cases among staff or residents.” State health officials and the Mississippi National Guard recently completed a plan to test every LTC employee and resident across the state.
As of Monday, the MSDH is estimating that 11,203 Mississippians have recovered from COVID-19.
179,388 state residents have been tested.
While Mississippi’s economy continues to reopen and restrictions on social gatherings have been relaxed, Governor Tate Reeves urged caution while stating that the threat of COVID-19 is “as great as ever, if not greater,”
“Coronavirus is deadly, it is contagious and it is present all over our state. We need you to be smart, we need you to stay sharp and please do not let your guard down,” he said Monday.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs made a similar plea and stressed the importance of getting tested if you are showing any symptoms and the continued need for social distancing.
