The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting the state’s largest one-day increase in new COVID-19 cases.

The report of 2,457 new cases—the first day over 2,000—brings the state’s total up to 156,868. With the confirmation of 15 additional deaths, 3,851 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

The state’s hospitals continue to show signs of stress as over hospitalizations continue to rise.

Tuesday, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs stated that 12 major Mississippi hospitals had 0 ICU beds available.

Governor Tate Reeves expanded his “Safe Recovery” order to include 13 additional counties.  This means that mask mandates and stricter social distancing guidelines are now in place in 54 Mississippi counties.
