The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,948 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report—the fourth straight day under 2,000—brings the state’s total up to 245,847 cases. With the confirmation of 41 additional deaths, 5,356 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.

Overall hospitalizations did see a slight decline in the latest data from the MSDH.
The recent announcement that those over the age of 65 and those with underlying health conditions were eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine quickly resulted in all available appointments through the end of January filling up.
According to an MSDH press release, “at this time, we have no additional vaccine, and every appointment is tied to an actual vaccination.” While you can schedule your second dose, no new appointments will be available until mid-February.
To date, just over 66,000 Mississippians have received at least their first dose of the vaccine and 52,000 appointments were scheduled over the next two weeks.
