JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Post Secondary Education Financial Assistance board has rewritten requirements for their MTAG and MESG grant programs into simpler terms. Members say it was originally written in for the legislature. The requirements are still the same, but according to board member Jennifer Rodgers the original text got confusing for some.
“Many of the rules of one apply to the other. We have clarified was constitutes as full time enrollment, the ways a student can establish academic eligibility, clarification of the ACT equivalency scores, clarifying the seven semester GPA,” said Rodgers.
The new text also clearly defines a first time college student.
The change of language still must be approved by the IHL.
As for a recent double on interest rates for federal student loans, there is nothing that can be done about that on the state level. For advice the board suggests only taking out what you need.
