JACKSON, Miss. – A bill has been proposed in the state legislature that looks to pay student-athletes.
In the bill, every university eligible for postseason play would have to set aside a percentage of revenue earned from the game or games into an escrow account. Players would then receive that money upon graduation.
Representative Omeria Scott, who filled House Bill 128, says that she hopes to at least start a conversation on the issue.
“In my option, the universities should be getting more which in turn means they can help these students. As you well know, most cannot work part time because of the commitment to their sport,” Scott said to local media.
