Madison-Ridgeland Academy head football coach Herbert Davis will miss the beginning of the 2023 season after being hospitalized in Jackson.
According to a social media post from Mississippi Scoreboard, Davis is currently battling an infection at the intensive care unit of Baptist Memorial Hospital. The championship-winning coach had previously been diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure in January 2020 and was awaiting a transplant. It’s unclear if a donor was ever found.

In the meantime, MRA will be led by associate head coach and defensive coordinator Danny White. White, going into his sixth season with the Patriots, has helped the team to three MAIS state championships (2019, 2020, 2021) since joining the high school ranks after 12 years as an assistant coach at Belhaven University.
The Patriots kick off the upcoming season on Thursday, August 10 at Parklane Academy in Brookhaven.
