Madison Ridgeland Academy head football coach Herbert Davis is back in the hospital.
After initially being hospitalized on Sunday, August 7 due to a kidney infection, Davis was released from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson last Thursday. He was then readmitted to the hospital this past Sunday, according to a report from The Clarion-Ledger.
Upon being checked in, doctors found that fluid had built up around Davis’ heart. They were able to drain a liter and a half of fluid from his chest, with Davis still hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon.
Davis, a five-time MAIS state champion coach, has been battling kidney failure since 2020. School officials told the Jackson-based newspaper that he is still looking for a matching donor.
“If you know anybody that has a kidney, he needs one,” interim head coach Danny White said. “If we can get that word out and get him healthy and a kidney, this would be an unbelievable story.”
MRA will take on Magnolia Heights this Friday without Davis on the sidelines. The Patriots (1-0) defeated Parklane Academy 48-25 in week one.
