A mother and son duo have been locked up after a firearm was brought to Columbus High School in response to an altercation.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to the school last Friday around 4:30 p.m., following a fight between two male students in the football field house. By the time officers arrived at the scene, one of the pupils involved in the spat had left campus with his mother, Sherita Baker.
Baker and her son reportedly returned to the school. According to witnesses at the scene, the unidentified student raised his shirt, displaying a gun after one of his peers said something.
The pupil is charged with simple assault with menace to create fear and felony possession of a weapon on school property by a student. He was transported to the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center.
