Moss Point Schools Face Suit Over Anti-LGBT Harassment

MOSS POINT, Miss. — The Moss Point School District is facing a lawsuit from Southern Poverty Law Center. A student there claims she was bulled and harassed because of her gender expression to the point where she felt like she needed to leave last. Destin Holmes says faculty did little to stop the abuse.

Holmes claims before she left the former principal at Magnolia Junior High School called her a “pathetic fool” and told her, “I don’t want a dyke in the school.”

Holmes also says she was was referred to as an “it,” “he/she” and a freak by both students and faculty. She would hear these insults as many as 20 times a day.

The indictments also include a transgender student, and gay male student who say they were both ridiculed and attacked by students.
