Moss Point Police have arrested the parents of an infant and a child after allegations of felony child abuse and neglect.
A 5-month-old baby boy was brought into Singing River Hospital for flu-like symptoms back in January, and hospital personnel notified the Department of Human Services after noticing signs of child abuse. During their evaluation, doctors found the child was suffering from multiple fractures to his arm, a burn to his face and a possible skull fracture. Officials also stated that he was extremely malnourished.
Due to the severity of the infant’s condition, the child was transported to USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital where he underwent surgery to relieve fluid which had built up due to the extent of his injuries.
The infants 4-year old brother also exhibited signs of abuse, and both children are now in the custody of family member.
The Moss Point PD was alerted an immediately launched an investigation into the matter. Yesterday, officers arrested Kevin Lemark Bush Jr. and Kaffay Mitchell in connection with the abuse. Bush has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse, and Mitchell has been charged with two counts of contributing to child neglect.
