GRENADA, Miss. – The death of a 3-year-old in Grenada is being investigated as a homicide.
Police received a call Christmas Eve saying a child was unresponsive. The child was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead before any treatment could be done. Detectives said the toddler appeared to have bruises, burns and other signs of abuse. Two other children at the home may have also been abused and were placed in protective custody.
The child’s mother, Cortinia Ewing, 25, and her boyfriend, Marqueze Collins, 27 were arrested and charged with three counts of child abuse.
Investigators said the charges could be upgraded if they get proof that the three-year-old, whose body is being examined at the state crime lab, died from the abuses.
