JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) Commissioner Hank Bounds is one of the state’s highest paid employees, and he is in the running for a better-paying job. Bounds says he was sought out by a search firm contracted by the University of Nebraska and is now one of the finalists to become the University’s new president.
“It’s an opportunity that I obviously had to consider for me and my family,” said Bounds.
During Bounds’ career in Mississippi he has served as a teacher, a principal, a local superintendent, a state superintended, and as a commissioner.
“I’m only a finalist at this point. Nebraska is interviewing me and I am interviewing Nebraska. I don’t know exactly what my future holds, but for right now I’m waking up every morning thinking about how to make Mississippi a better place to raise our children.
The IHL board recently gave extended Bounds’ contract and gave him a raise of $358,000. The former president of Nebraska was making about $421,000 a year.
