Dr. Nancy New, Executive Director for Families First Mississippi, was cordially invited to the Go Red for Women Dress Collection in New York City.
Thursday night, more than a dozen celebrities will strut the catwalk sporting red in order to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of women across the nation.
“This is an effort of the American Heart Association to bring awareness to the nation,” said New. “It’s really special. It’s sponsored by Macy’s.”
The Red Dress Runaway has attracted women from across the country.
“We’re trying to bring awareness across the country to women and their families.”
The event, founded by The Heart Truth in 2003, aims to remind all women that heart disease is their greatest health threat and inspire them to take action.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease accounts for 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined.
The Red Dress Collection event has raised more than $60 million dollars, saving the lives of nearly 300 women.
