JACKSON, Miss. – It’s a title no state wants to have but according to WalletHub, Mississippi is the worst state for underprivileged kids.
The study looked at numerous factors including infant death rates, child food-insecurity rates and the percentage of maltreated children.
The magnolia state was the worst in multiple categories including, the number of kids in single parent families, the percentage of children in households below the poverty level and the number of infant deaths per 1,000-births.
The U.S. has the second highest rate of child poverty among the economically developed nations.
The three best states for underprivileged children were New Hampshire, New Jersey and Minnesota.
