Mississippi Weekend: Everything from the Blues to Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious

JACKSON, Miss–  There’s something for everyone this weekend, from the Oxford Blues Festival,  to Neon Nights at the Children’s Museum, and the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center presents Mary Poppins.

The 6th Annual Oxford Blues Festival is Saturday starts at 10am in The Grove at Ole Miss.

Headlining the festival this year will be Mississippi Blind Morris & The Jeff Jensen Band.

General Admission Tickets for Saturday are free each for all. In addition, a VIP Day-Pass for  Saturday is $75.00 in advance online.

“This is something for everybody, it’s family friendly,” says Darryl Parker, coordinator of the event, “bring something to lay out, or a lawnchair. There’s also vendors and food.”

Parker says they will not be selling alcohol, so this event is BYOB.

Next is the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center’s performance of Mary Poppins at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

“This year, Mary Poppins will be flying on stage,” says Sonja Gillis, Director of Marketing and PR, “this is something we don’t get to see very often. There’s all the songs, like Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious.”

And for something a little unique for the adult crowd, there’s Neon Nights at the Mississippi Children’s Museum.

This is a networking and people-meeting event sponsored by the MCM Partners to raise money for the museum. It kicks off at 7:30pm Saturday night. Tickets are $40 online and $50 at the door. The event is being held in the Literacy Garden, the newest feature at the museum.
