JACKSON, Miss. – The first case of Influenza (flu) has been confirmed by the Mississippi Public Health Laboratory for the 2015-2016 flu season. It was confirmed in Northeast Mississippi.
Across the county, it’s estimated that anywhere from 3,000-49,000 people die and more than 200,000 are hospitalized each year because of the flu.
The state health department recommends getting a $30 flu shot.
Things you can do to try and protect yourself from the flu include, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, washing your hands frequently and staying at home when you or your kids are sick.
