The Bronze Star was presented Friday to Howard Miskelly, a World War II veteran, who served in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
“This is an award, not given but earned,” said Governor Phil Bryant, at a ceremony at the State Capital Friday to honor Miskelly.
“I want to make about three points right quick,” said Miskelly, 88, in a joking manner before a crowd of dozens, “Number one, you can’t imagine how much it cost me to get them to make these nice remakes; number two, I didn’t know I had these many friends, and number three, God bless you and I love you all.”
Miskelly was presented the Bronze Star Medal – the fourth highest combat decoration- for his actions during combat in World War II. After the war, he and his family eventually started Miskelly Furniture, one of the largest furniture companies in the Southeast.
