The Mississippi University for Women is once again being touted as the state’s best when it comes to nursing.

The Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences at MUW was ranked by Niche.com as No. 1 in Mississippi for students looking to become nurses. The latest ranking comes after MUW was tabbed as the best registered nurse program in the state by RegisteredNursing.org.

“Rankings such as these are a testament to the faculty and staff’s dedication to our programs and our overall commitment to our students,” said Dr. Brandy Larmon, dean of the Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences. “So many of our graduates stay in Mississippi, and knowing we are contributing safe, quality, practice-ready graduates to the health of our state and beyond is paramount to our purpose. Being recognized for that dedication, commitment, and contribution speaks volumes.”

In addition, MUW was ranked 39th nationally in the best nursing schools. There were 761 schools ranked in the poll.

The rankings from Niche.com and RegisteredNursing.com were based on NCLEX-RN scores, which is the national licensing exam for registered nurses. MUW currently has the highest cumulative pass rate in Mississippi with a score of 99.36, maintaining first place in the state after achieving the feat in 2023.

The Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences has more than 900 students and is located on the university’s main campus in Columbus.
