TUSCALOOSA, Ala.–The team that traveled from Oxford to Tuscaloosa was called one of the best Ole Miss has ever sent to Alabama and Saturday night Mississippi proved it with a 43 to 37 win over the Crimson Tide. All the big Mississippi teams pulled off wins over the weekend.
Ole Miss will take on Vanderbilt next Saturday and Florida after that. They jumped to No. 3 in the AP poll.
For State the victory over Northwestern was more than decisive, 62 to 13. Next Saturday the Bulldogs are at Auburn for an evening game.
For Southern Miss, the victory over Texas State was the first back to back win for the much-improved team since 2011. They beat Texas 56 to 50.
The Jackson State Tigers have not had a great year. Their third loss of the season was Saturday and it was their third game of the season. Souther beat them in Baton Rouge, 50 to 31. Their next game is at home against Texas Southern.
The Delta State Statesmen have done just the opposite all year and their third win was against Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday, 51 to 18. Part of the half-time show included a rendition of “Amazing Grace by the marching band, in tribute to Prof. Ethan Schmidt, shot and killed at the school Monday. Albany State will travel to Cleveland next Saturday.
Alcorn State has logged a couple of wins and Saturday they beat Mississippi Valley 55 to 14 in Lorman and they’ll stay home next Saturday to host Concordia State.
