Mississippi Targeted for LBGT Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A national group has selected Mississippi as one of three states to begin a three-year, $8.5 million campaign to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LBGT) equality and push for new legal protections for LGBT people.

The Washington-based Human Rights Campaign said its’ Project One America is built on having conversations and dialogue to try to help remove resistance and make it easier to change laws.  The other states chosen for the campaign are Alabama and Arkansas.  Organizers said each one has strong conservative and religious influences, but all currently fail to offer legal protections for the LBGT community.
