Bednar finished the 2020 season 9-1 for the Diamond Dawgs, with a 3.12 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 92.1 innings pitched. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the College World Series after three dominant perfomances, including six no hit innings against Vanderbilt in the deciding game three of the final series. Bednar joins Justin Foscue, Jordan Westburg, and Ethan Small as Bulldogs who have been taken in the first round over the last three seasons, and he is the 18th Bulldog to go in the first round since the draft began 54 years ago. He is the third Bulldog to be taken in the first round by the Giants organization, along with Will Clark (#2, 1985) and Chris Stratton (#20, 2012).
