As the old saying goes, a win is a win, and a win is what Mississippi State needed on Saturday.

The Bulldogs struggled all day against Western Michigan defensively, but put enough points up to walk away with a 41-28 victory to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Mississippi State’s defensive struggles reached a new low, as third-string Broncos quarterback Hayden Wolfe had the same kind of day SEC quarterbacks have been enjoying against the Bulldogs.

Wolfe finished 27 of 35 passing for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns, constantly finding open targets in the Bulldog secondary. Mississippi State’s offense was able to get out to a strong start, a 17-0 lead that proved vital as the defense was unable to keep the momentum going.

Will Rogers was solid on the day for Mississippi State, finishing 16 of 22 passing for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mike Wright saw his most action yet, going 7 of 10 passing for 57 yards and adding 49 yards on the ground to go with a score. Rogers left the game in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Mississippi State will return to action in two weeks on October 21 against Arkansas, that game to be played in Fayetteville.
