Mississippi State was in need of some recruiting momentum after a tough weekend, and the Bulldogs got exactly that, landing one of the state’s top prospects Tuesday morning in Germantown HS linebacker John Lewis.

Lewis burst on to the recruiting scene this fall, going from unranked to the fifth rated prospect in the state on the 247Sports Composite ratings. He picked over MSU over offers from Florida State and Ole Miss, the latter of which had been believed to be a big leader for his services. The addition of Lewis pushes State’s class up to 29th nationally according to 247 Sports.
The Bulldogs also received one other piece of positives in the early hours, as three star safety MJ Daniels, who had been the topic of much speculation regarding a possible flip, ended his recruitment.

Daniels spoke to Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports, saying “Oh man I was still recruiting some guys, they wanted to know if I’m going to stick and stay and I did it and I think that’s going to help with decisions next week.” Daniels added he will turn his efforts to helping Mississippi State land a few more in-state prospects, namely French Camp defensive back CJ Johnson, Louisville defensive end Ty Cooper, and Kosciusko wide receiver Antonio Harmon.
