Two days in a row, Mississippi State entered the bottom of the ninth inning against trailing Tulane. Two days in a row, the Bulldogs left the field a winner. Less than 24 hours after Luke Hancock’s grand slam on Saturday, Tanner Allen roped a base hit into center to score two and give State a 5-4 victory over their visitors.

State trailed the Green Wave 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth before Hancock doubled home Logan Tanner, then scored himself on a monstrous blast by shortstop Kam James. MSU looked to be in good shape, handing the ball over to closer Spencer Price in the ninth. Price got the first two batters, but a single gave Tulane a chance, and the Wave delivered as cleanup hitter Luis Aviles launched a ball deep into the Left Field Lounge, putting the visitors ahead by a 4-3 margin.

MSU had the bottom of the order due up in the bottom of the frame, and with one out, Drew McGowan drew a walk, then stole second. After a line out from Rowdey Jordan, it was Scotty Dubrule’s time to earn a free pass, bringing Allen to the dish in the midst of an 0-4 day with three strikeouts. A wild pitch moved both runners up, and on a full count, Allen ripped a ball into center to set Dudy Noble Field into hysterics.
