The suspect allegedly involved in an on-campus stabbing at Mississippi State University on Monday afternoon has been identified by school officials.
38-year-old Gavin Sudduth is accused of stabbing a university employee in a parked vehicle outside Herbert Hall. The unidentified victim was taken to OCH Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Sudduth is currently in the custody of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department after being charged with aggravated domestic assault and child endangerment.
The child endangerment charge was added since four of the victim’s children were present in the car when the violent attack took place.
According to MSU Vice President Sid Salter, the incident seemed to be a domestic situation.
MSU Police responded to the scene immediately, and a university Maroon Alert message urged bystanders to avoid the area. Campus returned to normal operations after the arrest.
No stranger to law enforcement, Sudduth had previously been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after reportedly shooting at a man in Philadelphia in 2022, the Neshoba Democrat reports.
Nobody was injured in the shooting.
