Coming off a season in which Mississippi State had the most players out of any university selected in the MLB Draft, the Bulldogs have reloaded and are once again being regarded as one of America’s top teams heading into the 2025 campaign.
D1Baseball released its annual preseason rankings on Monday, with Mississippi State joining eight other teams from the SEC in the poll. The Bulldogs were ranked at No. 18 with the upcoming season just over a month away.
Other SEC teams to crack the list were: Texas A&M (No. 1), LSU (No. 3), Tennessee (No. 4), Arkansas (No. 5), Georgia (No. 8), Florida (No. 10), Vanderbilt (No. 16), and Texas (No. 19). The conference led the way with the most teams ranked as the ACC also came in strong with seven representatives.
Mississippi State will open on the diamond with a three-game series beginning Feb. 14 against Manhattan. The team’s 55-game schedule includes 31 home games, 18 road games, and six neutral-site games.
In 2024, the Bulldogs compiled a 40-23 overall record, including a 17-13 mark in conference play, and were a two-seed in the Charlottesville Regional. In the final round, Mississippi State was ousted by Virginia who went on to make an appearance in the College World Series.
