The Mississippi State Fair is less than a month away, with this year’s rendition set to feature American Idol tryouts midway through the 11-day event.
Those selected from the virtual tryouts will be invited to travel to the Mississippi State Fairgrounds and perform in person in front of a panel of judges at the coliseum.
Out of those who have already applied, 40 will be chosen to sing on Saturday, October 7 before 20 are invited to fight for a spot in the next round on Tuesday, October 10. Both portions will be open to the public.
After that, a handful of selected musicians will be sent to Nashville to perform for American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan.
Michael Lasseter, director of the Mississippi State Fairgrounds, explained that the talent show has already received over 300 applicants within the past two months.
“We are expecting people to travel from all over to our capital city in the hopes of making their dreams come true and we are thrilled to share such an opportunity,” Lasseter stated. “With these new attractions, shows, and entertainment, as well as all the usual fairgoers’ favorites, it’s going to be an exciting year for the Mississippi State Fair.”
During season 21 of the hit TV show, two Mississippians – Zachariah Smith and Colin Stough – finished inside the competition’s top five. You can click here to submit a video of your audition.
