Mississippi State basketball hit the transfer market for a second time this offseason, and in doing so brought home a Magnolia State native, as Canton native Javian Davis announced his decision to head to Starkville after two seasons at Alabama.

Davis, a redshirt freshman power forward, averaged six points and just under four rebounds per game for the Crimson Tide, playing 16 minutes per contest in 31 total appearances. As a senior at Canton High School, Davis averaged 17 and 12 while earning first-team all-state recognition by USA Today. Davis is expected to contest for immediate eligibility, with the nature of his transfer being the odd man out on an Alabama roster that has reached its scholarship limits. Mississippi State would also be at the 13 scholarship limit with the addition of Davis should star sophomore Robert Woodard II remove his name from the NBA draft pool.
Should Davis be restored for the 2020-21 season, he can provide depth at the four position along with fellow transfer Galen “Tolu” Smith, who sat out last year after leaving Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs will be looking for both players to fill the shoes of all-conference star Reggie Perry, who declared for the NBA after two successful seasons in Starkville.
