JACKSON, Miss. — The state crime lab is doing tests to determine if spice seized during a raid at a Jackson apartment Thursday is related to a recent rash of overdoses.
More than 80 people have been treated at Mississippi hospitals for spice overdoses since April 2. Mississippi Bureau of Narcotic agents, tracking the source of the drug, raided an apartment at the Red Apple Inn Thursday afternoon, where over 200,000 packages of the synthetic marijuana were found.
With an estimated street value of about $8 million, officials said it was one of the largest spice drug bust in state history. Mississippi Bureau of Narcotic agents said chemicals used to create the drug and firearms were also seized. LaToya Emmons and Lester Singleton were arrested on charges of possession with the intent to distribute cannabinoid and distribution of a synthetic cannabinoid.
