Mississippi River Traffic Backs Up After Closure Near New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La.–Thanks to an oil spill after a barge hit a tugboat, a near 70 mile stretch of the Mississippi River was closed. That had caused river traffic to back up Sunday.

You may find out just how much you depend on the river while it is closed. It was unclear when it would reopen.

The actual oil spill was not expected to affect Mississippi, since it happened near New Orleans and was contained down river, but the effects on you could include goods not getting where they are supposed to go on time, and river traffic being backed up into the Mississippi stretch.

The Mississippi River tours were also likely to be affected, since some go as far south as New Orleans.
