State Rep. Keith Jackson turned himself in to authorities on Monday morning as the Democratic lawmaker is allegedly involved in a stolen property case.
According to WTOK, Jackson was indicted by a Kemper County Grand Jury along with two other people for receiving and possession of stolen property. The District 45 representative is accused of using a stolen log trailer as part of his business.
The TV station’s report added that Jackson vouched he was working for a man by the name of Fredwrick Young, who was looking to sell the trailer. Jackson arranged for a buyer, William Tate, to meet with Tate and make the purchase. The trailer was later recovered by the Kemper County Sheriff’s Department and returned to its original owner.
All three men were processed on Monday morning with Jackson being released from jail on a $2,500 bond. His court date is set for May 28.
Jackson is a law enforcement officer by trade, according to his House of Representatives biography. He won his first term this past November, defeating Republican Michael Cassidy in the general election. Cassidy, who has also faced legal issues, was arrested shortly after the election for vandalizing a Satanic display inside the Iowa Statehouse.
Jackson represents Kemper County as well as portions of Lauderdale, Neshoba, and Winston counties.
