JACKSON, Miss.- Mississippi will receive nearly $1 million to fix up four small airports in the state.
United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson, D-Bolton, announced Friday the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Federal Aviation Administration awarded nearly $1 million to Mississippi for projects at four airports.
John Bell Williams Airport, Cleveland Municipal Airport, Ruleville-Drew Airport and Panola County Airport will all receive the funds for expansion and improvement.
Hinds County will receive $142,200 to rehabilitate the taxiway at the John Bell Williams Airport. The Clarion Ledger said, this is phase 1 of the rehabilitation of the taxiways and includes funding for the pavement assessment and design of the project.
The city of Cleveland was awarded $300,000 to extend the taxiway at Cleveland Municipal Airport. The extension of the taxiway will provide access to aircraft hangars. This project will fund design and construction of 450 feet of the taxiway extension.
The cities of Drew and Ruleville were awarded $144,797 to rehabilitate the apron at Ruleville-Drew Airport. Rehabilitation of the apron is needed to maintain structural integrity of the pavement. The rehabilitation consists of design and construction of 5,000 square yards of an asphalt overlay.
Panola County was awarded $331,596 to construct a hangar at Panola County Airport. The construction of a hangar building will assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue. The sponsor has adequately financed the airside needs of the airport.
