With Halloween on the horizon, Mississippi is being touted as one of the spookiest states in America.
According to a new study, Mississippi ranks 11th when it comes to getting a good fright. The team at High 5 Casino looked at four factors – haunted attractions, horror-themed escape rooms, ghost sightings, and average haunted house rating – to compile its list of the spookiest states in the U.S.

Mississippi currently has 13 haunted attractions, 38 horror-themed escape rooms, and one reported ghost sighting during October. Its average haunted house rating of 9.34 out of 10 is the second highest in the nation behind only Texas. The Magnolia State’s overall spooky score was 4.25.
Even though Mississippi narrowly missed the top 10 spookiest states, it was one of just four in the Southeast to be included in the top 15. Florida (No. 5), Tennessee (No. 10), and North Carolina (No. 13) were also recognized for their scores in various fear factors.
