Mississippi Prison Guard Faces Capital Murder, Kidnapping and Robbery Charges

JACKSON, Miss. – A Mississippi Department of Corrections officer has been suspended without pay and remains in jail on capital murder, kidnapping and robbery charges.

Investigators said Andre Kennedy was one of two men who approached a Jackson doctor in his yard, forced him inside the home at gunpoint, took his wallet and forced him to drive them to an ATM.  Police said the doctor was able to grab a gun out of his truck and shoot the second suspect, Edwin Robinson, who later died.  Kennedy escaped on foot but was eventually captured.  He was arraigned in court Wednesday and denied bond.

Kennedy has worked as a prison guard in Rankin County since January 2014.
