VICKSBURG, Miss. – A German company that makes and sells leather to some of the world’s top shoemakers is opening its first American tannery in Mississippi.
Mississippi ISA TanTec will locate in the former CalsonicKansei factory in the Ceres Research & Industrial Interplex in Warren County. Governor Phil Bryant said the company is investing $10.1 million and plans to hire hundreds of Mississippians over the next five years. “Three hundred-sixty six families will be so positively affected by these jobs that are being created here in Warren County,” he said. “I am so proud to welcome this global company to the state of Mississippi and the Vicksburg community.”
“We’ve been able to attract this world class manufacturer to Vicksburg because of the economic environment, business environment and the political environment,” said Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, at a Monday press conference to welcome TanTec to the city. “We are so fortunate to have them.”
TanTec currently has tanneries in Vietnam and China.
