Former Germantown High School star Madison Booker has made history as the first freshman ever to win Big 12 Player of the Year.
In her first season with Texas, the Ridgeland native is averaging 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. Booker’s play was on full display during the Longhorns’ conference slate, where the 6’1” forward averaged 20.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 18 games.
Booker, who racked up a long list of weekly honors throughout the regular season, shares the Big 12 Player of the Year award with Oklahoma’s Skyler Vann. Vann averaged 15 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for the Sooners.
Booker becomes the second Texas player to receive the honor and the first since Brooke McCarty did it in 2016-17. Almost by default, Booker was also named Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
No. 6 Texas (27-4, 14-4) will be back in action this Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
