Mississippi native and season five winner of America’s Got Talent Michael Grimm has been hospitalized in Las Vegas due to an ongoing battle with a mysterious illness.
Grimm’s wife, Lucie, went to Instagram on Tuesday to update fans on the health status of the 53-year-old blues musician.
“The good news is that the doctors were finally able to remove the ventilator today. He is breathing on his own, so he’s doing good,” an emotional Lucie said. “However, due to the last week, his body went through a lot, and they still have him sedated so that he doesn’t seize or flatline from the fluctuating blood pressure.”
Lucie explained in the video that Grimm was hospitalized on Memorial Day after ongoing health issues “took him over.”
According to Lucie, Grimm suddenly was unable to walk and struggled to lift his head. The singer-songwriter slowly dipped into unresponsiveness, spurring doctors to place him on a ventilator in the ICU.
“I rushed him to the ER, and they admitted him,” Lucie recounted. “Whatever was going on in his body from whatever – the toxins, I guess – they were going to his brain. He started talking gibberish, and all of the sudden, physical tremors were kicking in. His blood pressure was skyrocketing. He became really agitated with the medication that he was given, and they had to put him in the ICU.”
As of now, all June and July shows scheduled for the Waveland native have been put on hold by Grimm’s team as doctors continue to work towards a diagnosis and solution.
“I don’t want to touch anything in August until I know where he’s at. It’s really just a day-by-day, minute-by-minute thing,” Lucie said. “My priority right now is to stand by Michael and stay at the hospital and make it through that he is stable and that he is taken care of.”
