Mississippi’s premier science museum is making final preparations to host its 25th annual NatureFEST on Saturday, April 5, as the celebration continues for an important benchmark.
The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) has been in operation for 93 years but is using all of 2025 to commemorate 25 years in its current location at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park in Jackson. NatureFEST is one of the largest events of the year for MMNS, with this year promising to be the biggest yet.

“NatureFEST is always one of our most exciting events, but this year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 25 years of connecting families to Mississippi’s wild side at LeFleur’s Bluff,” Museum Director Angel Rohnke said.
The all-day event will offer visitors of every age an opportunity to learn, play, and enjoy the very best the museum has to offer.
NatureFEST highlights will include wildlife encounters and “behind-the-scenes science,” in which visitors can meet a Eurasian lynx, macaw, three-banded armadillo, and birds of prey. The museum’s labs and scientific collections, home to more than two million specimens, will be open and MMNS scientists will be on hand to meet festival-goers.
Other outdoor adventures will beckon explorers, like a rock-climbing wall, an obstacle course, a soccer wall, and the Dinosaur and Nature Trails. An abundance of food trucks will be available to help adventurers stay fueled up during the jam-packed day.
