As the holiday season sets in, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will soon be celebrating with its “Museum Merriment” series.
Not only will the museum in Jackson be transformed into a winter wonderland with decorations, but various events beginning just before Thanksgiving and lasting through December are sure to get visitors into the holiday spirit.
- “Let’s Talk Turkey” will take place on Tuesday, November 26 from 10 a.m. until noon and allow visitors to get ready for Thanksgiving with a chance to see live turkeys, learn how to talk to turkeys, create turkey-themed arts and crafts, and play turkey-themed games.
- “Santa Feeds the Fish” is a favorite among museumgoers, providing an opportunity to watch Santa Claus scuba dive in the aquariums. Santa will take a dive every Tuesday (10 a.m.), Friday (10 a.m.), and Sunday (2 p.m.) between December 1 and December 22.
- “S.T.E.M. with Snowflakes” on Friday, December 6 from 9 a.m. until noon will give visitors a chance to enjoy hands-on, interactive games, experiments, crafts, and stories.
- “Snow Much Fun” on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14 from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. will include the opportunity to play in “snowfalls,” create winter woodland crafts, conduct winter S.T.E.M experiments, see Santa scuba dive, and have a “snowball fight” in the museum’s snow maze.
“We’re excited to share the holiday magic with our visitors!” MMNS Director Angel Rhonke said. “From meeting live turkeys to playing in the ‘snow,’ each event celebrates the wonders of nature and connects people with the outdoors.”
Each holiday event is free for members and included with regular admission for non-members. The museum is also reminding folks that yearly memberships are a great Christmas gift for individuals ($50/annually) or families ($100/annually). Becoming a member includes unlimited admission to the museum, invitation to members-only events and exhibit premiere parties, and various discounts on birthday parties, summer camps, and in the gift shop.
