Mississippi Murders: Several People Slain in the State Thursday

LEAKE COUNTY, Miss.–If you have any info about who may have killed Courtmey Cooke on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Leake County early Thursday morning, call the FBI, Natchez Trace Park Rangers, or the Leake County Sheriff’s Dept.

Her body was discovered near Thomstown in a vehicle parked on the side of the road near mile marker 143. Cooke, 27, had been shot multiple times. Her body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Cooke, formerly of Hattiesburg, was a clerk at a local convenience store. The sheriff’s dept. reportedly questioned someone Thursday, but no arrests have been made.

Here are the numbers if you have info: Leake County Sheriff’s Department at (601) 267-7361, Crimestoppers at 886-481-8477 or 601-355-8477, or the Natchez Trace Parkway 1-800-300-PARK(7275).

In Bolton Vincent Hill is dead after being shot inside a truck about 7:30 Thursday morning. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Dept. said they arrested Victoria Swannigan and charged her with murder after they say she and another man picked Hill up from work.

Swannigan, according to deputies, let the third man out of the truck and he heard a gunshot. Hill was shot once in the chest.

In Philadelphia, 49-year-old Catherine Thomas was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife about 4 a.m. Thursday. Police said it may have been a domestic incident. The stabbing may have been in self defense, though. James Horne was arrested, but released the same day.

Police told WTOK that Horne had scrapes and bruises.
