A north Mississippi mother is credited for turning her two teenage sons in to police after the pair allegedly evaded law enforcement and fired shots at officers.
The incident began on South Randolph Street in Marshall County on Tuesday. Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department report attempting to pull over a red Kia Forte after the driver was seen driving erratically with no headlights or tail lights on.
The driver is said to have failed to stop and led police on a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, two shots were fired at the pursuing officer with a bullet striking the squad car. The suspects were able to get away.
Police then notified other law enforcement agencies that the pair of teens were on the loose. A Marshall County sheriff’s deputy later confirmed that the two had ditched the vehicle they were in and ran into a wooded area. Not long after, the teens were spotted on a Ring doorbell camera at a home in Red Banks.
That’s when police released their images to the media for the public to see. One of the individuals who saw the pair in a news clip was none other than their mother, who promptly turned her sons in to authorities.
“I don’t play no games with them. If you gonna do the crime, you gonna do the time – plain and simple,” the mother of two of the teens who were arrested told WMC in Memphis.
Police have yet to release the names of the individuals but confirm that they are brothers. One is 17 years old and the other is 18. Both are charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. A third suspect is being questioned but has not yet been charged.
The mother of the two facing charges has since clarified that she believes her children are innocent and is hoping to clear their names.
