Mississippi Levee Commissioner and longtime author Hank Burdine has passed away.
Burdine, who was given the title “the historian of the Delta” was best known for his storytelling and expertise of the Mississippi River. He also wrote the book Dust in the Road: Recollections of a Delta Boy in 2018 documenting some of the most eventful stories of his childhood in Mississippi.
Steve Azar, Mississippi’s music and culture ambassador, took to social media to commemorate Burdine, whom he considered a dear friend.
“Our Delta will feel a tremendous void without you! You moved and impacted us all R.I.P. Luv u pal,” Azar wrote on Instagram.
