Mississippi has been making big developments as a go-to for defense development for the country, and now drones are being added to the resume.
“We’re going to be the center of excellence basically for UAVs and drones and for homeland security,” said Congressman Trent Kelly. “The technology and jobs that will spring up for Camp Shelby will be huge.”
Kelly said that’s not the only area of the state benefitting from drone development and testing.
“Mississippi State has a big part of that as well,” said Kelly. “You know, that’s the future…and for Mississippi to be on the future.. it’s great for Mississippi to be on the cutting edge of technology.”
Kelly said drones greatly improve the precision and safety of navigating enemy territory for the troops.
“Back in the 1980s we had a pencil and a map and we had to guess what could happen there,” said Kelly. “Now we can see it in real time, see the people, the vehicles, and the terrain.”
