In 2013, Cole Ellis returned to his hometown of Cleveland, Mississippi to open Delta Meat Market, a butcher shop and boutique grocer of fine Southern foods. The idea took root in the community, generating a loyal following and friendly atmosphere.
The culinary world took notice of Chef Cole, and he was nominated as a semifinalist in 2017 for the James Beard Award “Best Chef South,” and Delta Meat Market has been recognized for its butchery program in Bon Appetit, Delta Magazine, Garden & Gun, Southern Living, and more.
Cleveland and those traveling thru will now get to experience Chef Cole’s culinary magic in a new location: Bar Fontaine, a European-style Delta-focused restaurant, in the city’s latest hotel, Cotton House, is set to open in June 2019.
Rebecca Turner of Good Things chatted with Chef Cole on moving back home, making the transition from baking to butchery and so much more.
